General rules
Agreement to rules
By registering, you agree that you have read and are bound by all the rules listed on this page as well as throughout the board. We reserve the right to modify these rules at any given time, without warning. Failure to read or abide by these rules may result in your account being banned or suspended, with or without prior warning.
Respect
We strive to be a board for a seasoned collector and a newbie at the same time. Please keep in mind that everyone deserves your respect; be helpful and friendly to all users. This is not a suggestion but a rule! Continued negativity, flaming, and/or disrespect to any members will result in warning, followed by a ban if it continues. See "Trolling/Negativity" for more info. Also, the staff here devotes their free time to volunteering for SC - they deserve your upmost respect as well. Any disrespect to moderators and administrators will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Always show the upmost respect to the people who keep this board going. Any perceived flaming will result in an immediate ban. These rules apply to posts as well as private messages.
Dictionary
There are many terms and phrases that you will see used on SC. Some are internet related and some are specific to shoe collecting. If you see a term you don't know, please check our own Dictionary. If the term is not listed, post in the thread and someone will assist you.
Trolling/Negativity
Continued negativity is not tolerated. This applies whether you are directly attacking a member ("flaming"), or posting snide, sarcastic, or mean-spirited remarks on a regular basis. This does not mean you cannot be critical - constructive criticism is always allowed and encouraged. We are a family-site which strives to welcome all users. Only post if you can contribute positively - repeated remarks negative in nature are prohibited and will lead to basishment.
Posting pictures
There is an in-depth tutorial on how to post images directly into a thread. Please see here. Post in the Members Only forum if you are having any problems.
Multiple and shared accounts
Registering more than one account, or sharing an account with someone else is strictly prohibited. There is no need for more than one account - if you are having problems on your current account, please post in the Members Only forum. You should also be the only person to access your account. Have any friends register their own account if they want to use SC.
Account responsibility
You are responsible for any use of your account. You will be held accountable for any messages posted or sent through your username. It is up to you to secure your account to prevent being hacked and to not allow any other users to access your account. Change your password often and never give away your account information to anyone. If we have to block a user who has used your computer, you may therefore be blocked as well. Report any problems with users you personally know to an Admin first so that this problem does not occur.
Bans & suspensions
If you are banned or suspended from the board, you are PROHIBITED from re-registering, using another member's account, or attempting to access any part of the board in any way possible. For any violations other than fraud, we always leave the door open for users to regain access the board. However, this is contingent on the user respecting the board by following the very clear banned message. Show respect to the board and our staff and you will become eligible to be unbanned. This applies to suspensions and Marketplace bans as well - any violation of the banned message will result in that account being banned from the entire board indefinitely. We'll contact you if/when you're eligible to be unbanned. There are absolutely NO exceptions to any of these rules.
Varient and counterfeit products
The promotion or sale of counterfeit products ("fakes") is strictly prohibited. We pride ourselves on only using authentic products. Promoting fakes, advocating the use of them, or selling them will result in an automatic ban. Additionally, as the Marketplace rules state, selling counterfeit products intentionally or not will result in a ban. It is up to the seller to guarantee the authenticity of all products being sold. This is a zero-tolerance policy!
File sharing
Posting links to warez, music albums, or any other type of copyrighted material is prohibited. Linking to streams of songs or singles are allowed in the Music forum, but full albums/mixtapes are not. This applies not just to the Music forum but board-wide. Posting information (direct or indirect) on how to acquire copyrighted material is also prohibited, as well as any discussions regarding these websites and applications.
Prohibited topics
In addition to file sharing, any discussions on illegal activities are prohibited. Threads including references to drugs or drug use, or images of full nudity are prohibited. External links to any of the aforementioned subjects are prohibited as well. Use common sense - this is a family oriented site, and we have a wide range of users who visit from home, work, or elsewhere. Please only post and discuss appropriate content.
Avatars
Avatars should not have or imply drug use, partial or fully nudity, swear words, or anything of an offensive nature. If you are unsure of whether your avatar fits this criteria, ask a moderator.
General board problems
In general, if you have any questions or questions about the board, please post in the Members Only forum. If you have any problems with another user that could be resolved privately, we ask that you send a private message to a moderator or administrator instead of making a public post about it. This can prevent "smearing" a user and his/her reputation on the board.

Rules For Posting
Gravedigging
"Gravedigging" is when one posts in an very old thread, therefore bringing an already discussed topic to the top. This is not tolerated! In general, if a thread is more than 3 pages deep or the last post was more than 2 weeks ago, do not post in it! Instead, create a new thread. Use your common sense here - going to page 5 in a forum and posting in threads will not be tolerated.
Free Posting
"Free posting" (or "postwhoring") is when one posts non-contributive posts, usually to boost their post count. Usually it means posting an excessive number of times in one forum in a short period of time. We expect members to post when they have something positive to contribute - needlessly posting in any forum will not be tolerated. This includes posting only emoticons or quoting another post without adding any insight of your own. Users who free post will have all their posts deleted without exception. Subsequent violations will result in a suspension or ban from the board.
Search first!
Please always perform a search before posting. If you are looking for an answer to a question, often you can find the answer this way. Or if a topic already exists on what you are about to post on, use the existing topic provided it is fairly recent.
Posting in the right topic/forum
Please carefully review the forums and their descriptions, then pick out the forum that best fits your desired topic. If you are unsure where to post, ask in the Members Only forum. Also, please be aware of "official" topics and stickies/announcements - often there will be already be a thread for the post you are about to make. Please do not post outside of these official posts if they exist.
Derogatory comments
Comments offensive in nature regarding one's race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion are strictly prohibited. It is fine and encouraged to discuss these issues, but negative comments are not tolerated under any circumstances, in any forum. Members who violate this rule will be banned indefinitely without exception!
Flaming
Any type of personal attacks or "flame wars" of any degree are prohibited, anywhere. Consequences will be decided on a case-to-case basis. In general, members will be suspended or banned, with or without warning.
Spamming
Any type of commercial or promotional posts are prohibited! This includes referral links, links to other message boards, or posts whose sole intent is to promote a web site. If you are providing information from another board or site, do not just link to it - copy-paste the information and then provide a link at the end of the post if you wish. Users who register for SC/ISS simply to promote will be banned, no questions asked. This board is not a bulletin board - please respect it.
Board bashing
We are a sub-community of the greater sneakerhead community. There are not "rivals" - every message board or website forms a vast network for a sneaker enthusiast. We don't bash boards here! Most users here are members of other boards as well, and whichever board you choose to do spend the most time at, that's where you're at. Board bashing is not tolerated - either bashing SC or another board. They accomplish nothing. Topics like this or ones that could get out of hand will be locked.
Quoting pictures
In general, do not quote images. The default function of the quote button will turn any image into a link - usually it is best to leave it that way. Some threads have specific penalties for quoting pictures, please be aware of this.
Duplicate topics
Please post a new thread only once, in only one forum. Make sure it is in the right forum - if you do not receive a response after a couple days, give it a bump rather than creating a new topic. Do not create the same topic in multiple forums to get a better response, the additional topics will be deleted or locked.
Where they apply
These rules apply site-wide. Please be aware that some forums have specific additional rules listed at the top as well. The above rules apply to every post, in every forum.

Marketplace: General
Counterfeit items
Variant or fake products are strictly prohibited from being listed. It is up to the seller to guarantee the authenticity of anything being sold. Therefore, a suspension or ban will be given for any and all fake items listed in the Marketplace, whether listed intentionally or not. If you are unsure whether an item is authentic, DO NOT list it!
Multiple threads
Do not post your listing in more than one forum unless it fits within that forum's description. Posting your thread multiple times in a short time period is also prohibited. If you spam the other forums with your thread, they will be all deleted or locked without warning.
Prohibited items
The Marketplace is for physical items only. Services (restorations, etc.) or accounts are prohibited to be listed. Any weapons (guns, knives, etc.) are prohibited to be listed as well. Anything illegal in some or all US states (drugs, fireworks, etc.) are prohibited to be listed.
Violation of rules
Any post not formatted properly will be edited and locked without warning. Follow the rules the first time to prevent your topic from being locked. Repeatedly posting a listing after having it locked may result in being banned from the Marketplace and/or SC indefinitely. There are absolutely NO exceptions to any of the Marketplace rules.
Risk of using Marketplace
SoleCollector.com/solecollector.com will not be held responsible for any transactions or agreements made within the Marketplace. While we do our best to root out fraud, you are taking a risk using the Marketplace. Use caution and understand that we cannot refund you if a transaction goes wrong. See here for more information.
Fraud
If you believe you have been or are being defrauded, DO NOT create a new topic about it. Please read this topic on who to contact.

Marketplace: Listings
Multiple listings
When selling multiple items, they should be put together in the same thread (if they fit within the same forum). More than one listing per month, per forum, is strictly prohibited. Members who violate this rule may be banned or suspended, with or without warning.
Subject heading
Your subject heading should list what you are selling. Be as descriptive as possible. It is REQUIRED that you list the size(s) or size range in the subject.
Ownership of items
You must be the owner of ALL items you sell! This means it is strictly prohibited to sell for friends, users who do not meet the selling requirements, or banned users. Selling for friends will result in a suspension/ban for both users.
Bumps
You are only permitted to reply to your own Listing(s) in the Marketplace. These replies can only be made every 48 hours - attempting to post before this timeframe will result in an error.
Picture requirements
At least two (2) pictures are required of each pair of shoes items you are selling. If your Listing contains no pictures, it will be locked. In each picture, you must have your SC Forum username written on a piece of paper next to the item you wish to sell. There are no exceptions to this! A paper tag is required - having another object "represent" your tag is not in compliance with this rule. Pictures must be clear and easy to see the item, low quality camera phone and web cam pictures will not be accepted. You can host your pictures in our own Album or on another picture hosting site. The pictures also must be posted directly in the thread rather than a link. There are no exceptions or warnings to these rules!
Information to post
Detailed information about the shoes/items. Brand, year, model, what it comes with, details about the shoes/items itself. Be SURE to include all details on the condition of the items - including any marks, scuffs, etc. Leaving out critical information regarding the items is prohibited and considered fraud. Include a price range or items you are looking to trade. Also include any additional contact information, and if you wish, list your references (people on the forum you have had recent transactions with), potential buyers may wish to discuss your previous dealings with them.
Where to post
Please make your selling post in the appropriate forum under Listings, or Listings: Other Stuff if you are not selling shoes. There are different forums for different sizes: Sizes 8.5 and under, Sizes 9 - 10.5 and Sizes 11 and up. Auction links may only be posted in the Listings: Auction Links forum.
Negative feedback
Members with negative feedback will not be allowed to sell in the Marketplace forums and members with feedback of -5 are banned from the Marketplace (cannot access Listings, Wanted, or Agreements).
Editing posts
Once an agreement has been made, the seller should NOT delete pics or listings details, they are needed for reference. Just simply add a message that the item(s) have been sold.
Keyword spamming
Keyword spamming is placing a block of text with brands, products, items, or any non-relevant words in your subject or description of your Listing. The purpose is to increase traffic (by including your Listing in more search results) or to otherwise divert members to your Listing. This is strictly prohibited. Violators will receive a warning and will have this block of text removed from the listing(s). Subsequent violations will result in a ban from the Marketplace or board.
3 Month/100 Post requirement
You must have been an SC member for at least 3 months AND have at least 100 posts to post a new listing. No exceptions.

Marketplace: Wanted
Where to post
Please post your wanted thread in the correct size subforum (Sizes 8.5 and under, Sizes 9 - 10.5 and Sizes 11 and up), or Wanted: Other Stuff if you are not looking for shoes.
What to post
Include the year, brand, model, and color of the shoe you are looking for. A picture of the shoe in the colorway you are looking for (optional, but helpful). Include the size and condition you are looking for and the price range you are willing to pay or what you have to trade.
Risk of these forums
The Listing rules do NOT apply to any of the wanted forums. Any registered member can post, regardless of feedback, references, time on the board, and number of posts. Therefore, while you must be very careful using the Listings forums, you must be extra careful using these forums as we do not patrol them much. Of course, if you see anyone suspicious or possibly fradulent, please contact a Mod/Admin ASAP. But being that there is no 3 month/100 post restriction, it is vital that good judgement is exercised. Use the guideline outlined here when using this forum. Bottom line, use these forums at your own risk (as with the rest of the Marketplace).
Note on Agreements
It should also be noted that Listing links are required for Agreement threads - not Wanted links. That means that to receive feedback for a transaction, the member will have to meet the normal Listing requirements. Therefore, some of the transactions you agreed to through any of the Wanted forums will not receive feedback. Please keep this in mind if you are entering a transaction with a member through one of the Wanted forums - be sure you document the transaction since an agreement may not be permitted to be made.

Marketplace: Agreement system
How to receive feedback
The Agreements forum is the key to receiving and leaving feedback on this board. For a step by step process and general overview, see here.
Who can finalize
Please note that ONLY the agreement starter (topic poster) can finalize an agreement. The responding party cannot. Again, only the topic poster can finalize an agreement! The moderators will NOT finalize an old agreement. Therefore, if you are stuck as the responding party, you might therefore not receive feedback on an agreement where the topic poster is lagging. It may be to your advantage to set up the agreement therefore - note that either the seller or buyer can set up the agreement. Also note that the moderators will NOT leave feedback for you either - it is up to you to contact the other party and ask them to leave feedback if they are lagging. If they do not, you simply will not receive feedback for that transaction.
What counts?
Agreements must include a Listing link, meaning they must occur within our Marketplace system, and not through another board or website. Agreements must be current, active agreements; creating an Agreement for a retroactive transaction is strictly prohibited. Additionally, they must only involve two parties (three if you use Sneaker Exchange). Having another person receive a parcel or payment in a transaction is prohibited.
Feedback ratings
As with any feedback system, it is partly an honor system that only works if honest feedback is left. Please leave feedback that you feel is warranted. Take the entire agreement into account. Leave a negative feedback ONLY when absolutely necessary. This can taint one's profile here, forever, if left. Therefore, it should only be left in extreme cases. In general, late shipping, bad communication, etc. - these usually warrant a neutral. Fraud, flaking, fakes, etc., these warrant a negative. But once again, we trust the members here to make their own decisions. Use your best judgement. Retaliatory feedback will not be tolerated. This is when a negative or neutral feedback is left simply because you received one. If you are at fault and receive a negative, it is prohibited to leave a similar feedback for the other party simply to "get back" at them.
Feedback disputes
If you believe that you have been left feedback you do not deserve, please contact a moderator here. This can include a general problem (left feedback for the wrong user) too. Receiving retaliatory feedback (where you leave a negative for a user that is warranted, and they leave a negative for you just to get back at you) may be the most common feedback dispute. Always try to work things out with the other user before contacting a moderator.
Flakes
A "flake" is when one of the parties involved in an agreement backs out. This usually refers to a buyer not sending payment. It can also occur when the buyer is delayed and cannot send payment on time. Sellers can also flake - typically this means the seller finds a higher price and sells to another user, after entering an agreement with someone else. We do consider the reason when a flake occurs - family issues obviously take precedence of an agreement, but regardless, you are expected to follow through on the terms of any agreement. We cannot take one's personal life or circumstances into account - please take responsibility for all flakes.

In any event, flaking is something that all users should be aware of! If the other user flakes, please finalize the agreement and then leave appropriate feedback. If you are not the topic poster, and therefore cannot finalize the agreement, then you may be stuck. If no user has responded to the agreement, then it is not considered a flake and the agreement is considered void. In these cases, please ask a moderator/admin to delete the agreement altogether. Do not finalize it, you will not be able to leave feedback for yourself. Flakes are something we take very seriously. Please choose feedback wisely, and remember that retaliatory or unwarranted feedback in any agreement is strictly prohibited.
Counterfeit items
The selling or posting of counterfeit items ("fakes") and any fraudulent activities are strictly prohibited. Always perform a legit check before buying or selling anything. Always contact a moderator if you believe you have received a pair of fakes, whether you have been refunded or not. Any and all users who sell or attempt to sell counterfeit items, whether intentionally or not, will be banned without exception.
Fraud
If you have any agreement disputes, try to resolve them with the other user privately first. Attempt to contact them through any means you have available. If this fails, please contact a moderator/admin. DO NOT make a new topic or post about it in any forum. If/when it is confirmed that it is indeed fraud, then you may create a topic about in Members Only, provided a staff member approves it first. Do NOT post any personal information about the user.
Agreements with the same IP address
Although this system is automated, the moderators WILL and DO check agreements to ensure they meet all the requirements to receive feedback. Creating agreements with friends, siblings, and/or family using the same computer is strictly prohibited. Any users creating false agreements will be banned without exception. Any users with agreements where both users have the same IP address will be banned without exception. This applies to both users, regardless of whether it is a legitimate transaction. You have been warned!
Unique Feedback
Please note that you are permitted and encouraged to complete multiple transactions with the same user, however, your overall feedback number will not change. This means that if user x makes a deal with user y and feedback is exchanged, the feedback number will reflect this. But if a second deal is made between x and y, and feedback is exchanged, the number in your profile will not change. This is done to prevent "breaking up" single transactions (when two users divide one agreement into multiple agreements to receive more than one feedback) and to prevent free exchanging of feedbacks between friends or multiple accounts. Again, your feedback number in your profile reflects unique positive feedback you have received - not total.
Users with -5 Feedback
Anyone with -5 feedback is BANNED from the Marketplace (and usually the board). It is almost always because of fraud or selling counterfeits (although it can sometimes be for other reasons). You should NOT deal with these users under any circumstances. Use common sense!
The Statistics Box
The box on your feedback page featuring your recent statistics, including month/six month/twelve month stats, is cached. This means that this information is updated about once every 1.5 days. If any changes are made to your profile, it will take about that long for these changes to be reflected in your stat box.
Note on older feedback
Note that any feedback prior to 8/8/06 has been transferred as all positive feedback, and do not have the normal feedback text/rating/response system that is in place now.

Forum specific rules
Explanation
Below are links to the rules of specific forums. Some forums have rules in addition to those already listed on this page. Note that these rules do not override the board rules - they are simply additional rules that users posting in those forums must abide by. As with all rules, repeated violations of these rules will result in suspension or banishment from the board. Links to the Marketplace rules are not included - they are included in full below. Remember that the two big rules to remember for any of the shoe forums are: (1) No flaming or personal attacks of anything. (2) Put all legit checks in the Legit Check forum. (3) Don't post outside the official posts if they exist! These two rules apply board-wide, but are stressed in the forums for specific shoe types.
